can anyone tell me how to move the speaker from the centre
of the screen during playback of slide or better still
hide it altogether.

many thanks

steve alcock

Click and drag it off the actual slide. It will still play, but doesn't
show in Slide Show mode.

When your in the edit mode, just drag it off to the side, out of harms way.

I think you're refering to the speaker icon when importing sound to your
presentation? You can simply grab the icon and move it off the page so it
is not visible on the frame. You sound won't be affected at all.

that woks fine for the first slide but susequent slides it
remains in the centre

It sounds like you're importing a sound file on every slide. If that's the
case, you'll need to do the same thing to every slide in order to hide the
icon.

don't know of my first reply came but you were right BUT !

as i had multiple inserts per slide I had to move all
instances of the speaker, I had not realised that there is
a speaker for every instance, including ones I had deleted.

now my presentation looks and works fine now many thanks
