Hi there,
I need an help.
This is my situation:
-I have one laptop with windows xp home edition and one desktop with Xp
pro sp2.
-In this desktop ther are 3 disks (one with Xp, the second with Linux,
and third is storage).
-from Linux I ca see all disks and files, but I can't work or delete
some file on the disk where Xp rpo is installated.
I am not able to load Xp. because maybe are corrupetd some file and
before reinstalling the system I wish to save some important directory
where I had saved some files, very important for my work.
THe laptop and the desktop are connected by router and each one are
identified by an ip number from ruoter. Well, my idea is to work from
my laptop, where there is Xp home, to move files and directory from the
disk where is Xp professional.
I have tried to move the files from Linux, but it was not possible, it
says to me that I have not the right permission to write, but I also
know that is not very good to write with linux on NTFS system,
therefore I would like to move the files using the xp from the laptop
to the third disk that is only storage.
Is it possible??? and if yes, how can I do?

Thank

How to install or upgrade to Windows XP:

Note the part about a parellel install (mid-page) and do that. When you're

Thank for your answer, but I think I have not explained very well what
I need.
The matter is I can't access to files under Xp professional the system
is down. You have gave to me a solution how to repair the windows
crash, but first I wish to save the files. Threrefore I would like to
move them from laptop, if possible, and then to reinstall again the
system.
Therefore the problem is how can I do from my laptop.

The other problem I have had on Xp pro is that I have tried to reinstal
the system, but after reinstalling I get access to the logo windows and
then the system stops with a black screen without others possibility. I
have tried, from recovery consolle to fix the boot, to fix the mbr, but
nothing seem to be a valid solution.
It is for that reason I have choosen the solution to work through my
laptop and Linux.

No, no I didn't.

Do a side-by-side or parallel install into a different folder of Windows XP.
Your files will still be there, there won't be any reasons

If you can't get the parallel install to work simple use Recovery Console to
move the files to another partition or disk, you have three of them in
there.

Are you sure that using recovery consolle I can move one directory with
all subdirectories???
I never tried before, but I have read that vrecovery consolle can move
just files, no directories, maybe I am wrong.

You may well have to move file after file on your own. Another good reason
to go with a parallel installation.
