mouse trouble

My Intellimouse Explorer 40A PS2 mouse is misbehaving. I have to click and
click to get it to activate an icon or move the text cursor. It's
aggravating. I have downloaded the latest software and configured it every
which way. Could it be the mouse or the screen driver?

What is a screen driver? You mean video driver, right? You should
troubleshoot
your mouse settings. Start/Control Panel/Mouse/Hardware tab/troubleshoot
button.
