Mouse stops at startup

When i startup my hp laptop my mouse works for about 30 secounds then stops and i have to use the keyboard to get everywhere :-(....help please.....
 
i encountered this problem previously and once i checked
the lead, blew down the connection terminal to remove any
dust etc. the problem did not arise again. if not it must
be a fault in the laptop or hub(if you are using one)
