Mouse Problems

Sometimes, for what seems to be no reason at all, my
mouse will not work when I start up my computer. It goes
to the Windows lon in screen and I can not use it. I use
the tab key and select restart computer and it will work.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you
 
1. check the connection
2. get a second mouse and test it
3. if both fails..it's a software problem...too many possibilities
