MY mouse [ logitec trac ball ] is not responding correctly and the buttons
are not responding correctly either! I have to keep pressing the button
numerous times before the action is executed. When trying to bring the cursor
to a position on the screen -- it doesnt move with the spinning of the ball
but I have to spin and spin it until it finally shoots either past the target
or before the target etc. Which makes it very difficult to accomplish
anything. Why is it doing this?

Probably dirt, inside on the rollers....take it apart and clean using a
Q-tip and alcohol. Another possibility would be a short or open in its'
little tail (the wires). If cleaning doesn't help, try another
mouse.......they are cheap....even the optical mice, much better.

Your has probably collected dirt and debris overtime. A good cleanup will
help it out.

If that doesn't work, try the mouse on another computer to see if it is
producing the same problems. If it is, your best bet would be to simply
purchase another one, perferably an optical mouse. They are inexpensive and
you won't have to worry about cleaning them up.

I appreciate your advice but thats the first thing I did and changed the
batteries (twice) and it didnt help.

Again, its not anything that would be the obvious, like Ive cleaned the mouse
- cleaned the lazer - cleaned the case that surrounds the ball - Ive replaced
it with a new mouse - Ive checked the cable , its connection - it is
something with the operations because if the button on the screen is high
lighted by hovering the mouse cusor over it.. the button click of the mouse
will not complete the action but if I press enter on the keyboard -- no
problem?

Again - thank youfor your attempts to help BUT its not the things that would
be the obvious. Like cleaning the mouse or cleaning the laser -or cleaning
the case which surrounds the ball - or a bad cable - or the connection of the
cable - I already changed the mouse to a new one - Its something that has to
do with the internal works or system.

Try a different mouse.

Where'd you get the ""new" batteries? They go bad in the drawer or on the
shelf sometimes.
Otherwise, PS2?, USB connected?
What's running unseen in the background? Task Manager shows very little of
actual goings on. Maybe look into Process Explorer or the like.
