Mouse jumps all over the place

My Logitech Trackman Marble Mouse is behaving erratically on my new XP
Desktop--particularly in Word and IE. It behaves normally then suddenly
jumps all around the page opening other windows and if in IE closes the
program.

If I immediately hit the esc key it stops and usually returns to normal but
sometimes freezes the screen. Any solutions?

My computer does the same thing.

Originally it started with Windows ME. Upgraded to XP & it still does it.
Before it used to default to the top right of the screen where the "X" is.
Now it goes pretty much wherever at any time.

HELP!

Get an updated driver?
