Mouse freezing

Using XP SP 11 and recently mouse started freezing and have to switch off and
on again. Have done all the normal checks and cleanups and would appreciate
any advice, comments.
 
Mouse freezing usually also means System Freezing. It could be caused by
misbehaving software or hardware. You could
start by rt clicking MyComputer>select Manage>Event Viewer>Look in Apps
and System Error records.
 
Thanks - I agree and have tried everything. Computer 4 years old and now
distortion on screen which goes when I run mouse over it but screen also
going black momentarily - any ideas more than welcome

mouse AND screen issues sounds like driver problems.

Try and be sure all your divers are current.

One good way is to download "Driver Genius", NOT Driver Magic, from
download.com

It's not free, but you get like 2 weeks to test it.

That should be all you need to be sure all your stuff is current.

Download all the drivers it recommends, then install one at a time,
watching your warnings so you don't write over a new driver already on
your system with an older one.

Also watch warnings that your current driver is correct.

All those downloaded drivers will make a nice CD (or flash drive, or
zip drive) so that you have ALL your current drivers in one spot for
easy installs/reinstalls.

That comment is one of the most asinine, ridiculous things you've
ever said. If that alone doesn't invalidate all your "I've Found", and
"I use" mindless drivel, that comment should.

Do us all a favor and shut the hell up and go somewhere else to
hand out your "Look What I've done - What I ( don't) Know crap".

It's NOT the mouse freezing. IT's your OS freezing. Disable the 39
un-needed background apps you've set to run 24/7.
