Hi Lyall,

With machine specifications as you mention, I doubt it's an overtaxed
machine. Is your mouse old? The microswitch within could be seeing better
days, and they aren't really "cleanable". Try a different mouse and post
back.

I have a windows XP Pro pc, with an Athlon X64 3600, 2gb ram.

When using the mouse (A modern microsoft usb wheel mouse), clicking does
not respond unless I hold the button down for a fraction of a second.

Anyone come across this before?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Lyall,

As an afterthought, I had a problem in my W98 days, with windows opening,
closing, clicking this and that...all in the blink of an eye. All very
sporadic.

Someone mentioned trying a different mouse, well, the rest is history <s>.

Try downloading the latest driver from the Microsoft site. It could
solve your problem.

Well, it seems the obvious was the problem.

The mouse in question was a Microsoft Wheel Mouse, Optical, USB and PS/2
Compatible.

I put a much newer mouse and the clicking problem went away.

Looks like I had better go and buy a new mouse...

Other than this clicking delay, I have never had a problem with optical
mice. This is my first problematic optical mouse since they came out.

Thanks.
