I'm looking into upgrading. Currently I have a AN7 which has 2 sata ports.
Everytime I have to install windows xp, I need the damn sata diskette. I
would like to know if S939 motherboards with sata ports still need this
diskette to install windows .
thanks

I assume the HDD you're installing Windows on is SATA. Are you trying
to install following a complete reformat? Which board do you have?

Some (if not most) mobos with SATA/IDE do not have the SATA drivers
natively and you do need a floppy to install the drivers to allow the
board to recognize the drive. Newer boards will probably have native
drivers in the future, but I'm not completely sure.

Frank,

Although I didn't bother with SATA/Raid, my MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum mobo does
need an install from floppy. There is a newer version of this board and you
could check the MSI site.

No and I'm surprised the AN7 does unless you've not got the BIOS
options set up properly for the SATA.

My Gigabyte K8NSC-939 does not require separate drivers to install Win XP.
If I want to install on a RAID array [using either SATA or PATA], I do have
to load drivers during WinXP setup.
