Recently my old computer was hit by lightning and I
upgraded/replaced the mainboard, CPU and memory from Intel
Pentium celeron 450 to a True Pentium 4 2.4G. Now when I
attempt to load from my original windows XP drive it keeps
bringing me to the screen where I am supposed to select
either safe mode or load normally. No matter what I
select, it reboots and sends me right back to the same
screen. My question is this, is there a way to get windows
to see the new hardware and load or must I reload the
whole windows xp? I need to save some data on the drive
and I am hoping that I dont lose it all. Thank You for any
input.

Yes I had the same problem..it requires you to reinstall
WIndows..because windows doesn not like the New mobo...so
reinstall and that should solve all problems

Unless the new motherboard is virtually identical to the old one
(same chipset, same IDE controllers, same BIOS version, etc.), you'll
need to perform a repair (a.k.a. in-place upgrade) installation, at
the very least:

How to Perform an In-Place Upgrade of Windows XP

As always when undertaking such a significant change, back up any
important data before starting.

This will also require re-activation. If it's been more than 120
days since you last activated that specific Product Key, you'll most
likely be able to activate via the internet without problem. If it's
been less, you might have to make a 5 minute phone call.
