Hi.
As you know there is a kettle socket in the back of the pc
to take a power lead.... BUT some older pc's have two
kettle lead holds. one for power and the other feeds power
to a connected monitor. please could some one tell me if i
can cut off the lead to the monitor and just put a regular
plug on it. then i could plug pc and monitor into the wall
sockets.
Many thanks for your help.
I want to do this because i fix the odd pc in my garage.
The monitor in my garage has to take its power from the
pc....but not all pcs allow this on the psu. so I have to
keep carrying my monitor fr upstairs down to do it.
Thanks
Phill

You don't have to cut it off.. just attach a regular power lead to the
monitor cable and then plug it into the power outlet..

Your right, it must be a very odd PC if you don't know that. Are you sure
you are competent to carry out this work ?

Well try it - if the monitor uses standard wall socket AC voltage used in
your location, then it will work fine, if not, then poof and small puff of
smoke and you'll never have to worry about it again. Suggest reading the
specs on the monitor first, it should say what the voltage input
requirements are and whether AC or DC is required along with what amps.
