I wonder if anyone can recommend any software that will watch for and block
or alert me to unsual activity on the system. By unusual activity I mean
things like several emails being sent in quick sucession etc. Im basically
looking for something that will watch over the system and make note of, or
block this kind of activity. Thanks

I wouldn't worry about any of that just yet: According to your post's
headers (Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2600.0000), the machine has no
critical security updates or Service Packs installed and it should not be
connected to the internet (or any networks) in the first place until you
take care of that situation!

The service packs screwed the system up. So the question remains......

Service packs don't screw up systems unless they are already screwed up.
PA Bear is correct; you need to address the bigger problem first! I
suggest you start another thread.

Would you buy a new car in 1999, never do any maintenance whatsoever on it
and then complain to the manufacturer when it dies? I don't think so...
