I've never seen anything like this before.
I installed a new HD, and instead of copying the files from my old HD over,
I decided to reinstall Windows on the new HD and go from there.
Everything proceeds fine (partitioning, formatting, copying files,
rebooting, etc) until after the first reboot, when it boots off the HD for
the first time and shows the Windows XP Logo screen. The logo screen stays
on for the requisite time (a number of seconds), but just as it changes to
the setup screen, my monitor suddenly goes into standby mode. And then
every few seconds or so it tries to "wake up", and does so, just long
enough to show me a flash of setup screen, before going into standby mode
again.
It's so frustrating! I'm removed all the power-draining hardware (PSU
issue?), replaced the old harddrive and boot from it (works fine), and
checked out a ton of options in the BIOS (nothing appears wrong). I can't
seem to stop it from going into standby mode! Once it does, I can hear the
CDROM copying files and setup continuing for a minute, so it seems like
it's continuing normally, but I can't see what it's doing...
I haven't tried another monitor becuase I don't have one. I have tried it
on two different video sources, though (onboard and AGP card). Same thing.
I have:
Dell 2000XP LCD
Shuttle SB51G (FB51) Mainboard (latest BIOS)
Pentium 2.4GHz HT (800MHz bus)
2x256MB RAM, Seagate HD, TDK CDRW, etc
Please, anybody have any ideas?
Thanks
