Monitor Trouble

I've had this problem for awhile. My girlfriends computer when booting up,
after it gets to the video card ID, then I get the windows splash screen.
Then the screen goes black, the monitor on light stays green like it still
has a signal.
If I reboot with the monitor disconnected and plug it back in after a full
reboot no problem.
Mon: CompaqMV740
CPU:Duron 1.3ghz
Vid: FX5200
OS:XP Pro
Mem:512 M

Update disply driver? Once your in, see in device manager
if the display adapter is ok, also see if the monitor is
showing up too. If not you will need to go to control
pannel/add hardware and select yes to hardware already
installed/next/search for a monitor or display card to
add from the list and click next and finish up. I am not
sure who makes the fx5200 you describe if it is an nvidia
card go to www.nvidia.com for an update.
