Hi:
My monitor started to 'black-out' with purplish and
reddish color, about two to three times during 20
minutes' use. On each occassion, a slight 'bang' on one
side of the monitor makes the screen back to the normal.

This problem started about a month ago. In the
beginning, it happened just once in 20 minute' or so.
However, its frequency started getting worse with the
time. I may need a 'New' monitor to replace this one,
however I can not make a decision because the monitor is
just three years' old with priced around $350.00.

My question is;
Should I bring this monitor to the repair shop which must
charge a 'hefty' price, then I'd better to settle
to 'purchase' a brand new one?

I'd truly appreciate it if you would offer me any
suggestion/opinions on this regard.

Seeing as it is a CRT and not a flat panel - just buy a new one. They are
CHEAP now.

Hi:
Thanks for your response on this regard.
After having read it, I looked for AD paper/Sunday ADs.
However, just a new type, 'flat' monitor's AD only, ...
NO 'older' monitor, like mine/CRT.

I wonder whether I am able to find a similar to mine,
because frankly I love this 'older' style monitor rather
than a new, ... 'flat' monitor.
Or, is there some benefit from getting a 'flat' monitor
over 'CRT?' I have ENOUGH space for a big monitor on my
desk.

good deal.Bout the cheapest one you may find, although
I've seen some for $79 but when you go for them there
sold out. This is a nice monitor(I have this one on my
kids computer(Bought it on sale for $89)and works just as
good as this Dell monitor,I'd buy another if I had to.

Flat, people say it's easier on the eyes, but after buying
mine,I have trouble to focus on things(even while not on
the computer). My eye doctor asked if I spend a lot of
time on the computer, not a lot hour or so a day, told him
about the new monitor, told me to try a CRT,bought a new
one at Best Buy for a hundred dollars, and with-in a week
I was back to normal.Gave my flat to my grandson, who
loves it.

CRTs are pretty much standardized now. Even the cheap ones are decent. Not
the way it used to be.

LCD (Flat Panels) are the same thing now that CRTs used to be.. You truly
get what you pay for. You need to look at refresh rate (also called
response time) and contrast ratios. Lower response time (under 20ms) is
really what you want as well as better than average contrast ratio - better
than 500:1.

Hi Annie...... FWIW, I replaced my old style crt monitor recently with a
flat screen crt. This has all but eliminated the glare problems I was
experiencing (due to windows in this room). I really like it.

I work quite a bit with graphics & photos, so I don't care for the LCD
flat panel monitors. They just don't seem to be as 'clear' to my ol'
eyes, & I've spoken with many graphics/photo editors who feel the same
way.

Your best bet would be to go to a large chain PC store (BestBuy,
CompUSA, etc) & ask to see/try different monitors they have set up in
their display.
