I am unable to get my monitor to work meaning the screen remains black
after startup.I have been having this problem at startup for sometime
but it usually resolved after rebooting. Now, I am unable to get it to
work at all
even rebooting several times. I suspect a driver problem vs. the
monitor but what do I know. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks Gary M
A monitor driver problem is very unlikely. Here is how to troubleshoot:
1. Check the cabling between the computer's video card and the monitor.
Any bent or broken pins?
2. If you have a computer with onboard video and a separate agp video
card, are you plugging the monitor into the correct video card (the agp
one)?
3. Connect the machine to a different, known-working monitor. If the
problem is gone, you know your original monitor is toast.
4. If the problem continues while the computer is connected to a
different monitor, the issue is with your video card. Swap it out for a
known-working video card. If the issue is resolved, replace the
original video card.
5. If the issue is that your computer is not actually starting up, your
power supply may be dying or you may have other failing hardware
components. Your post isn't descriptive enough to tell.
If you are uncomfortable working with hardware and/or don't have spare
monitors and video cards, take the machine to a good local computer
repair shop and have them diagnose it for you.
