Images on my monitor periodically become blurred. Turning the monitor off
then back on will make them clear again. It happens off and on, with no
consistency or regard to program that I am using at the time.

Test another monitor, to rule out the possibility that yours is the cause
of the problem.

Your monitor's high voltage circuit is failing due to a leaking capacitor.
I'll bet it's a Sony. Typical. It will keep doing it til it fries
completely, with a loud pop. Sorry.

Start shopping for an LCD...

one more thing: SOMETIMES this is caused by dust buildup inside, which
can cause a sneak path for voltage; it often corrects itself with a loud
static "crack", which is the dust bunny frying! You could try blowing the
unit out in hope of eliminating the dust. USE CAUTION if you remove the
cover, there's high volatge in there! I'd recommend (believe it or not)
taking it outside and using a leaf blower to blast in thru the vent holes
and dislodge all the dust you can.
