when turning on monitor, once it came on in rainbow
colors and looked odd, turned off monitor and turned it
on again and each time, it flickered or "wobbled" as it
came on. There are no driver updates at this time when
scanning for updates. Help. Thanx.

The rainbows and flickering you see when you turn on the monitor is probably
the degaussing circuit being on. It demagnetizes the picture tube each time
you turn on the monitor. It turns itself off after a very short period of time
(a few seconds) Perhaps it was slow in turning off?

.thanks .corn but i'm not sure what to do with ur answer
as i don't know what or where the degaussing circuit is
or if it is on/off. no problem so far with monitor
turning off slowly, not that i have noticed anyway.

.I checked refresh rate, which troublshooting said
should be set at 100 default. Mine was set at default 75
and i hade to override that to find and click on 100. It
changed my screen appearance i.e. smaller window frames,
and i didn't know whether to leave it at 100 or default
to 75. does changing the rate keep the window frames
smaller or is it just going thru a process and my regular
size window frames will stay?

Do NOT leave it set at 100. Refreshing faster than the designed point can
damage your monitor. Do you have a flourescent light at your computer? If so
try without that light.

There is nothing you can do with the degaussing circuit. If it is bad, a TV
repair or computer repair shop can fix it. I was just trying to explain what
you may be seeing.

Thanks. I will contact a repair person. Wish I knew
more about electronics, but, alas, I don't and really
appreciate your advice. Good day to all.

.I left default at 75. Thanks. No flourescent light
around; only an incadescent source about 4 ft away.
Think I might have to get a repair person to check the
circuit, (degausse circuit?), which has been pointed out
to me , by another discussion group member, might be the
problem and that possibly it is bad. I'm so ignorant
about the workings on the inside of a computer, I'm
embarrased to admit. Thanks so much and have a great day.

Carey,

Just in case you don't get this above:

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR REPLY ABOUT FINDING THE
WINDOWS XP PRODUCT ID! I FOUND IT EASILY!

It's too bad Microsoft couldn't send me there instead of
wherever they said to go.

Thanks. Hope you get an answer. I don't know much about
monitors or I would be glad to help.

Libba
