My resolution was changed to 1024 x ? and was not put
back to normal. The screen went blank, so I waited for it
to return to normal. Now when I start up it show 'Windows
XP starting up. but normally when the login screen
appears, its just blank.

The normal resolution is 800x600. How do I put it back?
Are their short cut keys or must I use a different monitor?

Boot to safe mode by pressing F8 before Windows boots, then
select safe mode. Safe mode is always 800x600 at 60 Hz.

While in safe mode, reset your video to a supported
resolution and rate, click OK. Then you can re-boot and it
should work normally.

BTW, since you posted your real email address be very
careful about emails you get from now on. All newsgroups are
"harvested" by hackers, spammer and it seem virus writers.
You will begin getting spoofed email from Microsoft and
other companies, that sounds important, even looks
important...but will carry viruses.

You should always alter your email address in some way (see
mine.).
