My monitor has an "hour glass" shape on the sides. I
have moved anything that has a magnetic field, and I have
performed the monitor reset to no avail. I read on
another newsgroup that I should Degauss the monitor.
What is this, and how do you do it?

From what I understand, a CRT monitor needs degaussing
when there is a rainbow-like color distortion. The
distortion can center on a corner or an entire side of the
monitor. Some monitors have a "degaussing button" to erase
the errant magnetization which causes the rainbow effect.

If your distortion is symmetrical from left to right, it
is possible that the horizontal beam controller is either
going out or needs some adjustment. If you were to show
the monitor to a reputable dealer or repair station, they
would know how to determine the severity of the problem. I
assume you have read your monitor manual's troubleshooting
section.

Most every monitor has an "hour glass" setting to adjust. Look for it.
It's not a degaussing problem.
