Monitor a XP pro machine

I need a piece of software or a solution to monitor a XP workstastion so if
it crashed and is shut down the software will email a message to me. I know
of some packages out there but I can't spend thousands of dollors for it. If
you are familiar with nagios for linux, it does what I'm looking for.
