Moduslink upgrade arrived

Vista was publicly released on Jan 30. Moduslink clearly states that the
software would ship 6-8 weeks after public release and confirmation of
eligibility. So, assuming you were confirmed eligible prior to release, we
have 1 day in January, 28 in February, and 19 in March making 48 days total.
That divided by 7 days per week is 6 weeks and 6 days, well within their
stated timeframe.

Moduslink has had issues with responses and acknowledgements, but you can't
fault them on this one.

Just because they issue a "stated timeframe" doesn't mean it's acceptable.
It takes Newegg 3 days to ship stuff. It took the PowerTogether promo
team only a few weeks. Moduslink's dismal service might not be
Microsoft's fault, but it makes them both look bad nevertheless.

Thank goodness I've switched to open source free software for my new Mac!

If the timeframe wasn't acceptable to you, then you shouldn't have used that
channel. Like I said, they have had issues, but don't fault them when they
do what they state they are going to do. Keep in mind that in addition to
the upgrade bits, they also needed to get releases from each OEM
manufacturer to update the drivers and software for the target systems. Not
an easy task to do sometimes, particularly with larger ones that tend to lag
behind in releasing updates (can you say HP?).

Have fun with your Mac. I know I have fun with my various 'nix machines.

In defense of ModusLink, I understand that most of the delay was
caused by OEMs taking their time to develop custom driver disks
that are supposed to come with the Vista DVD.

I am one of the people foolish enough to do business with Moduslink, and have
registered a written complaint with Microsoft about the chaos Moduslink have
created. The person dealing with my complaint at Microsoft has not made any
attempt to justify the poor service delivered by Moduslink, and is as angry
with them as many of the people posting in this community.

If you have not experienced the Moduslink chaos personally, trying to
justify their actions, or lack of them , is hardly likely to help the
situation.

In my case, I successfully registered an order last November only to have it
cancelled for no reason in mid February. I have re-ordered, but continue to
get conflicting information via e-mail on a weekly basis. My latest mail has
requested I fax my proof of purchase to them. This would be the same POP
posted to them last November and e-mailed to them in February.

I cannot accept that the problems I (and many others) have experienced can
be linked to the lack of drivers/DVD's as a result of the volume of orders.
It is closer to incompetence and poorly managed orders by Moduslink

I have and currently am dealing with them on an issue, so I do speak from
experience. I'm not defending them, but I am saying that you cannot place
blame or fault them when they delivered the goods within the given time
frame. If you want to bash them, do so for the right reason. As to the delay
caused by needed OEM disks, it is very real.

Have had no problem - received today:
"...Your order has been shipped. You should receive your order within 1
week..."
Also quoted (regarding drivers):
"...For your convenience HP has created Windows Vista Express Upgrade
checklists available on the HP website at www.hp.com/go/windowsvistaupgrade.
It is strongly recommended that you review the checklist and begin
preparation steps. We have included an HP Driver DVD for most models to help
walk you through the preparation steps and install. If you should require
assistance with any of the preparation or installation steps, please visit
the Express Upgrade website at www.hp.com/go/windowsvistaupgrade or call
888-447-0150 for assistance. .."

You mean that Moduslink DVDs are more uptodate than the RTM/Retail?

WOW!

Thats not the way I read the agreement, the wording says "Vista would arrive
4-12 weeks after confirmation of order'.

What people are so upset about is that Moduslink doesn't seem to be able to
tell when you'll get what you paid for. I wouldn't have cared when the ship
date was just give me a friggin date. Is it 4 weeks or 12? After all this
time how is it possible that they can't even give shipping dates?

Hi,

A quote from the application page:

"The Upgrade Software will ship within approximately 4-6 weeks from the
later of (a) the date your have completed the redemption order requirements
or (b) the applicable language version of the requested Upgrade Software has
been released in your country. The receipt of Upgrade Software is also
subject to availability and product supplies."

Again, I'm not defending all their actions, just stating that they can't be
faulted for the shipping times.
