the product that lured you into
buying your problem? :

when i bought my pc it was chosen beacuse it had an and i quote "an express
upgrade". i phoned e machines the computer manufactor. they gave me a
telephone number to modulink the company that microsoft hired to to take care
of all the upgrades. now i was given a website to carry out my "free" upgrade
costing me £13.83.
https://upgradeweb.moduslink.com/vi...00z5bqmb))/GlobalLandingPage.aspx?oem=Gateway
i have been trying to get some sense of this now since i placed my order in
febuary. i know there is thousands of people out there in the same boat as me
so im asking can i complain to microsoft or is it another waste of my time if
so whats the best way to go about it... thanks

yeh, but it was unclear to me
if the shipping charges you
paid were for shipping across
the ocean or across town to
you.

in any case, the link does
show that upgrade express's
have basically expired. but
if since you purchased your
pc 10 weeks ago and applied
for the upgrade then you should
get one.

the question is where to start
the complaint.

try this link there is email and chat avail.
http://support.microsoft.com/gp/contactuswindows?sd=win

basically the brunt of your complaint is
that one of "microsoft's partners" did not
fullfill the promise to give you an upgrade
express and you are getting the run around
from the emachine seller and the cold shoulder
from moduslink.

if the pc has an oem version of windows
then don't let microsoft refer you to the seller.

the issue here is not a problem with the oem
but the upgrade express commitment that
was not provided by microsofts partner
here in the u.s.

i'll keep your thread flag and see what
microsoft says.

thanks db for your help i will give it a go and keep things posted.. and yes
it was a shipping fee over seas. that i understand why i have to pay but i
also know of people who as paid for the so called free upgrade just sending
it across town. surely this is against the law or you would seem to think so.
i just hate how big companies feel they can say one thing and do another.
little fish like me stand no chance with them.. thanks

you're welcome.

cheating people is against
the law. it's just a question of
whether or not the cheaters
get away with it.

if both companies are
located here in the u.s.
then we can try to help....

thank you very much db.... i have sent three emails of complaint and asked
questions one to microsoft on to e machines (gateway) and one to moduslink
the company hired by microsoft. no replies as yet but im probably asking way
to much for them to reply yet its only been two days. probably take at least
7 to 10. keep it posted with the outcome

actually, it should take no more
than 24 hours to receive a reply
or an autoresponse advising you
that they have acknowledge an
email from you.

the problem you are experiencing
may be self inflicted by waiting
a period of time longer than 24hrs
for electronic correspondence.

of course a gentlemen would be
gracious by providing 10 to 14 days
for a response via regular snail mail.

did Microsoft provide you with
a response to giving you the
promotional vista upgrade?
