Modifying file location for Start Up

I am just curious. I have Word 2000, open a document, select tools->options->file locations and under start up, the current value is C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Microsoft\Word\STARTUP (this is the same value set by the installation program)

Question: What is the significance of this file location? Under what situation there is a point to changing it from the default

What I have changed this default to is a network folder that houses
templates that I want everybody in my department to be able to use. The
good is that it is only one file I need to change for everyone to have
access to that particular template. Bad news is everyone has to be out of
Word in order to copy over an updated file, since these files are opened
whenever Word is opened.

Pretty handy though when working with document management systems that have
lots of templates. The one I use is a blank template with a toolbar with a
few buttons on it, one that opens a UserForm providing access to all of my
templates.

Hope that answers your question.

A single user may also benefit from moving this folder. It makes backing up
data much easier to manage if you separate all your data to a separate disc
or partition.

I am afraid the question have not been answered.

If we open Options -> File locations, Word displays an dialog box with 8 different file locations and their defaults

If I see the benefit to assigning a desired file location for documents (so that it makes backup of my documents simpler), I know I could change the default under the "file Types=documents" row (which is the first row). I have touched value long time ago

If I find a benefit of assigning a desired file location (such as make it somewhere in a file server), such as allowing everyone in a department to share document templates, I reckon I may modify the default under either "file types=user templates" row (the third row) or "file types=workgroup templates" row (the fourth row). I have also touched this value log time ago

What I have never touched is the last row under Options, file locations. This last row is called "start-up". I am curious and asked the question: what is the consequences or benefit of changing this very location

The startup location is the folder addressed to determine if there are any
add-ins present that Word must load. The only reasons to change this
location are to put all the user data on a single drive or partition, or to
allow a number of users to *share* a startup location for ease of
distribution of global templates. In that latter respect it would be similar
to the way the workgroup location is used to distribute document templates.
