Modified Date in Windows File Explorer Disappears

I have a Dell laptop with Windows 2000 on it. It has a CDRW run by Adaptec. I
have a situation where I copy files onto a CD-RW disc using Windows File
Explorer. While I am viewing the files on the CD-RW disc, the modified date
of the file "disappears" right before my eyes. When I insert the disc back
into the drive the modified date is either non-existent or contains the
current date. Have you ever heard of this problem, and if so, how do I
correct it?

Has the disc in question ever been accessed on another machine? I saw a
similar thing happen once, and it happened after I had written to the disc
several times on one machine and then read it on another. I did not
intentionally write to the disc on the seconds machine, but Windows may
have done so.

No. In fact here is another posting on the Dell website that is very close to
my problem.

I recently installed a Dell CD-RW/DVD combo drive into my Latitude C600
running Windows 2000. I also installed the accompanying Roxio Easy CD
Creator 5 Basic software. The drive functions correctly except for the
following. When I copy (or cut) files to a CD-R or CD-RW through Windows
Explorer using Roxio DirectCD the date shown in the "modified" column in
Explorer becomes the current date and not the date that the files were
actually last modified. I've used CD writers on other computers using the
same Roxio software and this phenomenon does not occur. I need to have the
actual dates-last-modified copied to the CD. I would greatly appreciate any
assistance. Thank you.

Sorry, I don't have anything further to add. I saw this sort of thing
using the old Adaptec software, from before it was sold to Roxio, and it
was only the one time.
