Looking for one of these. Any suggestions/recommendations please?

Many thanks.

Password managers seem popular but I really am not very comfortable writing
down my passwords, let alone with the aid of 3rd party software which might
have design flaws.

Nothing is as safe as passwords you memorize. You might want to try this as
an exercise, it is actually not very hard but you have to devote some time
to practicing. Memorize several good passwords, that is, at least 6
characters, not just letters, not just a word. Say you memorize six such.

Then, as you need to use passwords in computing, rotate the use of these
memorized passwords. When it's time to change a password (e.g. yearly)
shuffle around the passwords.

You don't have to memorize new stuff, but you certainly enjoy the major
advantages of password security: passwords change, are hard to guess, can't
be compromised from one place and used in another!

Yeah, right. At last count I am keeping track of more than 60
passwords. Ten just for my work, plus banks, plus credit cards, plus
utilities, plus, plus....

Add to that the fact that a bunch of them are on accounts that make me
change every 60 days and don't let me repeat for a year and I get three
tries, they lock my account, and I have to get through to someone and
disclose even more sensitive info to get it unlocked.

I completely agree with the idea of memorizing all my passwords, but I
just can't do it.

I like PasswordSafe. It's small, encrypted, and lets me use names like
"groceries.nov" for the file so it won't say "I'm a password file,
steal me."

Not to mention they reside on your PC.

No, they don't. I use a thumb-drive, have turned off all the password
tracking features in my browser, and regularly run a program that
scrubs caches and temp files.

Your = plural and on 99.% of users, yeah they do.
