I have a Gateway system which I just upgraded from
Win98SE to HPHome.

The modem is a US Robotics ISA 56K Voice Win. This modem
worked perfectly with my telephone answering software.

After the upgrade, XP tells me the modem is now a US
Robotics Fax modem Win 1801.

My software does not work telling me the modem is not a
voice modem.

I have contacted Gateway with no success. I am looking
for a solution.

See if US Robotics has an XP driver for the modem. If not, new modems are
inexpensive.
