Modem

I upgrade my HP 6454c from 98 to xp pro and now my modem
doesn't work. I have downloaded updated drivers and
still nothing wants to work. Under device manager the
modem is listed as unknown with a question mark.ANy
suggestions?

If it were me, I would un-install it, (physically) from the machine and
re-insert it in the mobo slot to see if Xp will re-detect it properly...Or
you could go to install new hardware applet and see if you can have it
'installed' thru that Control Panel applet, first..See if it is listed
there, (probably not) but then read the list of components listed to see if
there is a similar modem listed.

OK, you have downloaded the proper drivers, but did you install them?
Properly? Read the instructions closely. Sometimes the drivers have
to be installed before the hardware, meaning you may have to open the
case, remove the modem, reboot, install the drivers, shutdown, install
the modem, and restart. (Boy that was a long sentence).
