Modem - Unavailable Device

I've got a GM28 Cable Modem that I've installed on an
Embedded system but when I try to setup the dialing
properties using the new connection wizard it defaults to
Com1 and doesn't allow me to configure any other
settings. I can query the modem via the phone and modem
options control panel. I've zipped up a word document
containing a number of screenshots and placed the file
here: http://www.identecsolutions.com/modem/modem.zip

Can someone could give me some insight into why this is
happening and any possible solution that would be great.

I am using XPe Sp1.

Thanks.

Dwayne,

Even though you provided the screenshots it is still not enough information
to give you any advise.

How did you install the modem driver?
Any related errors in SetupApi.log?
Did you componentize it?
Any errors in FBALog.txt if you made and used the component?
Did you include all the necessary Dial-up/RAS components, etc.?

Also, at run time try to change permission in the registry for
[HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\*PNP0500] and [...\*PNP0501] keys
(set full access to everyone).

Also, add "Unsupported Device" (this will add "PnP (User Mode)"), "Class
Installer - Modems" and "Unknown Modem" components to your configuration
(just to be safe).

Hi KM,

I've posted the list of components that I have included
into my image here:
http://www.identecsolutions.com/modem/
You will find two image files components.jpg which is all
of the components in my image and a tmzcomponent.jpg which
is primarily the hardware component piece.

I did create my own GM28 Cable modem component and
included it into my image. When the OS first boots in
detects the hardware and then I go through the wizard to
confirm the drivers to use.

I don't think the problem is with the driver but perhaps
I'm missing a component that the dialing application
uses.

Did I include all of the necessary Dial-up/RAS
components...good question hopefully you'll be able to
tell me once you look at images I posted. I've also
posted the fbalog.txt and setupapi.log. Not exactly sure
what I should be looking for in them.

Thanks for your assistance.

Dwayne,

This is an interesting way of showing things.

From your logs I saw that you did not include "Dial-up Client for Windows".
This is preventing your from installing RAS stack. Please include the component.

See if you have alll the components listed here:
http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=...f=1&[email protected]

Next time you may want to send out just a text list of the component (So that it ouwl be easier to search in it).
To get tnhe list of components in your Configuration, you may take a look at the functionality provided by ConfigurationExplorer
component/XPeTools package on www.xpefiles.com (Development Tools/Main folder).
I did create my own GM28 Cable modem component and included it into my image.

Using CD Inf import?
Have you seen any import errors?
What is included in the component package? What binaries? Did you check the binary dependencies (e.g., using Dependency Walker)?

Also, try to just copy all the files to appropriate directories on XPe run time (through a component or manually). It should work
since PnP will pick up the driver's Inf.

Include "Dial-up Client for Windows", "IP Security Tools and User Interface" components.

Other errors may not be importatnt. But it it does not helps you, please update setupapi.log from the new run time you will get
including the components mentioned above. Then we will review it again.
