modem not communicating with port

Installed new motherboard and had to "repair" windows XP.
All went fine. Looked over and saw the modem was not
installed. Installed modem and restarted XP. Modem query
was good. Driver was installed properly. It will not
recognize a port. Changed modems, same problem. Trying to
install wmconnect it said to check error 711. Following
thru, i find that ras is not responding error 5 also error
1068. Followed all instructions with no avail.

I had the absolute same problem. Looked it up and solved

it easily by editing the registry. I had to delete a
couple of folders and it was solved. My modem immediately
started working and I could set my dial up configurations
any way I needed. (e-mail address removed)
