I have a dial-up internet connection and everytime I connect to the internet the screachy modem noise is amplifed through my speakers. I can turn my speakers down, but I'm looking for a better solution. Any ideas?
David,
If you will consult the owner's manual for your modem, you will find a speaker
volume control parameter. There may also be a hardware volume control on the
modem itself.
For a USR Courier modem, M0 shuts the speaker off for the entire call, while M1
leaves it on until the connection is negotiated. The USR Courier external modem
also has a hardware volume control. Your modem may too.
Now you must consult your manual to find how to enter the modem command string,
to which you add the appropriate M value.
You may get additional assistance in discussion group comp.dcom.modems.
Cheers,
Chuck
