Modem and Help files deleted upon reinstallation?

I have had to reinstall Windows 2000 on my home PC after
Service Pack 4 gave me problems. Using my Emergency Repair
Disc, I was able to restore all delfault settings without
losing any valuable data. However, I found I was unable to
connect to the internet- though the system said my "LT Win
Modem" was already installed, it would not recognise it. I
clicked on Help Topics for Windows troubleshooting, but
everything in the interactive troubleshooters refused to
load, saying it could not find the help files! Therefore,
I am now stuck unable to connect to the Internet on that
PC, and without the necessary help files being able to be
accessed regarding modem and hardware troubleshooting, I
am lost!!
 
Try updating or reinstalling the modem drivers...
or uninstall the modem from the device manager... re-boot should reinstall
it automatically...
