Hey all,

I am looking at getting a new mother board, here are the specs i need;

P4 (socket 478) 800FSB Supports up to 3.2GHz
4x USB2.0 and support for 4 more USB Ports
IEEE 1394 (firewire) PINS - Not the actual port.
8x AGP (0.8v) Graphics (AGP3.0)
3-4GB RAM (max) 3-4 RAM Ports (RAM Type not important)
SATA Drive Ports

All for... £50 or less

anyone got any suggestions?

i have found this one: http://www.dabs.com/uk/Search2/Product+Details.htm?quicklinx=31PB&searchphrase=GA-8IPE1000

that one does not have any firewire,

any more?

thanks,

KGB

i like the look of that motherboard u showed there

but sorry have to have a dig at you...

its made my Gigabyte not a big fan of them to be honest.

ive always gone for ABIT and Asuz! The BIG A's!!
:)

I'm fairly certain you're not going to get all those features for £50.00 or less.

Firewire does seem to be the determining factor in pricing, there are plenty of boads that meet your requirements without firewire for around the £50.00 mark, some good boards from MSI & Asus.

Here's a board that meets all your requirements, but it's £77 plus postage: Here

OK, cheers Floopy,

If i get rid of Firewire, do you have any other suggestions?

Thanks,

KGB

Personally I love Gigabyte boards, and I got my Gigabyte GA-8IK1100 rev2 for about £48.00 (+P&P), from aria.co.uk bargain section. It has all of the features you listed.
My last 3 boards have been Gigabyte's and have Never given me any troubles, they are well built with ease of useability in mind.

I do believe cache-man may have pointed you in the right direction, kgb911 :)

Take a lookee, 2nd one from the bottom:

Gigabyte 8S655FX-L

I didn't think to look at Aria, I don't really trust them after reading horror stories from former customers.

As for Gigabyte boards, imo they're solid and dependable, but not particularly exciting. Feature packed but lousy for overclocking.

I have a couple of Gigabyte GA700N Pro 2's myself, although one's up for sale at the moment.

I would prefer to buy from Dabs personally...

Cheers

Thanks for all your help, i think i will buy the one i found seeing as you people (except PSD) think that GigaByte are good...

Thanks again

kgb:

If I were in your position, and found a board with all the features I wanted for less than I was willing to pay, I'd go for it and take a chance with Aria.

Maybe chris could comment on Aria, I think he's bought a lot of stuff from them, although he did have a disagreement with them a few months ago.

Remember, that board costs £48 and it has Firewire. And it's shown as in stock.

Glad to knwo we can be of help.

What did you end up ordering, as I'm after a similar specced board to the one you were after, for a computer for my mother - certainly don't want to be spending any more than £50 :)

Good deal. Will you let us know what you think when it arrives. Maybe a little piccy too

yep, no probs... i have never ordered from there before so i dont know what their delivary speeds are like

OK, here is my short review...

It is a great motherboard definutally worth the money. worked very well, comes with lots of programs, one that allowes you to add a boot-up image to the BIOS (like PC manufactorers do)

it is very well built and has good specs. i would reccomend it to anyone.

Very pleased so far... Pictures to follow
