Missing unread folder in Outlook 2003

I know this is an old post but I just ran into the same problem.

I fixed it by adding a new search folder.

click on New at top left

click search folder

choose unread mail By default its already selected,

click ok and you're done

You can drag the folder into what ever postilion you want it in the
folders list
