Missing TCP/IP Protocol?

My dad has a strange problem on his computer. It's made its semi-annual
treck from the north the the south (i.e., travelled between two houses). The
northern house is still on dial-up, the southern house has broadband. So,
upon arrival in the southern house my dad found that he has no internet
access. Well, it turns out he's got no TCP/IP stack on his network adapter.

So, simple, we'll just turn it on. Except it's not in the list of available
protocols. The only thing we've tried is: netsh int ip reset ... but to no
avail.

Any ideas? What are the logical next steps? (BTW - this is on Windows XP
SP2).

Try uninstalling the network adapter in Device Manager. Then turn off
the computer, open it, and reseat the card. Start the computer and
hopefully Windows will find the card and install it. Then you should
have Internet. It sounds like there was a good possibility that things
got a bit jostled in the the move. If Windows doesn't see the card
after that, try first putting it in a different pci slot. If that
doesn't work, put in a different card (they are cheap).
