Hi,
I installed WindowsXP Professional on my computer and after it was suppose to start it came up with an error that said
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: Windows root\system32\hal.dll Please re-install a copy of the above file. I have looked on my Windows98 disk and the XP disk and can't find that file. When I did a search on my computer I found it in the harddrive under that same directory ( Windows XP). So it is there but must be corrupted. How do I get an uncorrupted file to replace it? Or how can I eliminate it so that Windows XP will work?
Thanks!

Boot from the Recovery console and type
bootcfg /list --> will show the list inl boot.ini
bootcfg /rebuild --> will repair it
