Finally had cable modem installed and cannot connect using it.
Comcast (installer) says I have a corrupt "windsock" file. What can
I do?? thanks.

First thing to try is shutdown computer, then unplug the modem, this will reset
it,usually this is the cause. If that works fine otherwise, are the needed
lights
on or flashing on the modem indicating youre connection is good. Also open
internet options,connections,lan connection,set to auto detection.Next,open
internet connections,R.click on the icon for cable, properties, chk
only,"client for
microsoft networks",microsoft TCP/IP,Internet Protocall,then close out,open
add/remove programs,windows components,networking,select all,close-out.

Thanks for the replies. I was able to get it fixed by updating from
windows and resetting the modem. I think the modem was more at fault
than windows but I did both at the same time that the cable DSL
started working. That time is the only time it took longer to reset
the modem - had reset the modem numerous times trying to fix this
problem. All is good now. Thanks for the help.
