missing ntoskrnl.exe during install 2000 after XP

I have read several threads on dual boot W2k / XP. A lot of useful info.
However, my problem is that during the 2000 install, I getting the "missing
ntoskrnl.exe" after the first reboot.
Single Harddrive
C: - NTFS - XP sp2
D: - NTFS - data
E: - NTFS - attempting to install w2k.

I'm a thousand miles from geekdom, but I do know that after I had
Win2K/WinXP dual boot problems, Paul M's comments (the 4th post in the
thread referenced below) saved me a bunch of hassle:

Thanks, I have tried this. And I am sure it will work. The problem is that
the 2000 install is not completing. It can not find the ntoskrnl.exe file.
