When I tried to open Network Connections Folder I get message:
The Network Connections Folder was unable to retrieve the list of
Network adapters on your machine.
Please make sure that the Network Connections service is enabled and
running.

I looked in Services and there I couldn't find Network Connection
Service.

I'm stumped - does anyone have any ideas how to get back my service ?

Greetings Inquirer,

I did a search on the error you received but with no results. I don't know
what could cause it but here are some suggestions you can try.

1) Try disabling the XP's firewall.
2) Reinstall your network adapter.
3) Run a Repair installation of XP

Let us know what works.

After reading again I do have the Network Connection listed in the Services.
I don't think disabling ICF or reinstalling your network adapter will help.
You may have to run a repair installation.

First make sure that your Network Connections Service and Remote Access
Connection Manager services are running. If not, try and start them.

I have encountered this problem as well after I did a repair
installation and subsequent install of SP1 and all the critical
updates. I have all the services running, and no IC sharing or
firewall running in XP. I followed the instructions on deleted the RAS
25 & 26 registry keys, and that had no effect.

Does anybody know what is going on here?

Thanks.

Nothing worked.
I just spend whole day installing winxp from scratch. :(
