missing my documents

Hi friends, my problem is that My Documents icon is missing from my desktop
and Window Explorer does not show it sometimes. I have to navigate to the
directory manually. Is this a virus? Or is there some setting to change?

Is your friend running XP because if he is, this is one of the options that
you can choose whether to display My Docs on your desktop - but I can't
remember how because I don't use XP.

Control Panel > Folder Options > View tab, scroll down to near the bottom,
check "Show My Documents on the Desktop".
 
He\She was addressing us as "friends." XP is the first thing I thought of. That is done through right-click desktop | Ptoperties | then there is a tab which when selected you will see a button to Customize desktop. That is where My Documents can be set to appear on the desktop.

Only trouble is once set it the folder should not come and go. This is why I think the user is speaking about Windows 2000. No I wouldn't call this a virus with what we know so far. It may just be that the user's profile is corrupted. I would as Adiministrator make a new profile with Admin rights and use that for a bit to see if the issue re-occurs. If not the orinal profile is corrupted.
