Switched on PC and XP Pro would not open (ZA and AVG all
upto date). Started my small stand by disk with XP on and
was able to check through the main drive and could find
nothing wrong and no nasties.

Did a format and reload and the following problems emerged.
1) In Power Options no sign of Hibernate nor Standby.
2) On the Key Board only standard keys work
3) In Turn Off Computer the Stand by button is greyed out.

Any help appreciated

The Standby button will become available once the correct video
card/adapter drivers are installed. It will appear when you click
Start > Turn Off Computer...

Visit the support website of the manufacturer of your video card or
video card adapter, search for the latest Windows XP compatible
drivers, download and install them.

If you have a notebook computer, visit the website of the manufacturer
of your notebook computer to obtain the video adapter drivers.

Then right-click on your Desktop and select:
Properties > Setting and adjust your Screen Resolution
settings, then select "Highest (32 bit) Color Quality setting,
and click "apply".

Visit the support website of the manufacturer of your keyboard,
search for the latest Windows XP compatible drivers,
download and install them.
