Boot up cannot find Harddrive. In Bios it says no Harddrive.
On Sunday evening it was ok but Monday morning it would not boot. I tried
recovery but it says it cannot detect Harddrive. Dose anyone know if it is
possible to recover this drive. I am running XP Home on it.

Alan, you can try sticking it in the Freezer for a couple of hours and
then try to recover whatever data you can by connecting it as slave to
another working hard drive in a friends computer.

I tried that, still don't work. I have tried scandisk and that says there
are no faults. Anyone else got any ideas. Thankyou.

Try removing and reseating the IDE Ribbon at both ends, making sure both are
inserted correctly (Red Stripe and alignment *Key*). Maybe replace the
Ribbon with a new one.

I was thinking, after I sent the last reply...Possibly the controller on the
MB went bad. I saw that it was suggested to put in another computer briefly.
Did you try that, and if so, were you able to access info on the drive then?

Willie

Well, it was a thought. And as to the second part of my question, when the
HD in question is set up as slave, is the information on it accessable?

Willie

Ouch...Not a good sign (I guess I don't have to tell you that)...Who knows
what happened to cause this, but I know it would be nice, to at least know
what the cause was, even if the HD turns out to be "Toast". Sorry I couldn't
help. Good Luck.

The freezer trick is something I've seen more than once in my visits
to hardware sites. Never tried it
but what the hell if it could work long enough to recover some very
important files then it's worth a try.
