missing hal.dll

I'm trying to fix a computer with a missing hal.dll
file... i can't boot at all, whether in safe mode or not.
i've created some boot disks from bootdisk.com so i can
replace the file but i've been unable to boot from them
due to an error code 4105; which, from what i can gather
from the rest of the error message, is that it can't load
the setupreg.HIV. it's a work comp and i'm trying hard
not to resort to all out reformatting. i'm in the process
of trying to get a hold of a win2k cd but i'd like to
know if there are any other possible ways to fix this if
i can't get a hold of one... thanks

You will have to boot your machine with your Win2000
CD, then allow it to repair your installation.
