a CD.
Please help

Sound like a BIOS trouble. If you haven't got a clue what I mean or you
haven't touched them at all. It could be the battery in you computer that is
dying. Is it older than about 3 years? do you have to update the time
everytime you switch on?
If not becarefull with your BIOS settings!

turn off the computer
Then start it up
press the button to go into BIOS
Normally del or F2, something like that!
look at BIOS screen (big and Blue) and find an option that loads previous
values. either load defualts or optium settings or something similair!

Though of something else!

Right click your C drive
select properties
select hardware
there should be a box with all your drives.
if you DVD is there select it
clcik properties
at the bottom, check if it is enabled! or if disabled!
select enabled
restart machine!

My dvd drive shows in the BIOS, the PC is only 3mnths old.
Nothing wrong with the battery.
When I select to start from CD-rom in the BIOS, it does.
It does not show up under Hardware if I select properties of C drive.
I'm totaly familiar with BIOS settings and such.

Download and update your virus and spyware definition and software. Scan
your computer in safe mode. Then if everything is clean and you still have a
problem try the steps below.

The following contains information about editing the registry. Before you
edit the registry, make sure you understand how to restore it if a problem
occurs. If machine won't start you can restore the registry by rebooting
while pressing the F8 Key. Select "Last Known Good Configuration". Or you
can use "System Restore" from Start->Programs->Accessories->System Tools.

1. Uninstall all CD Burning software from the system.
2. Go to Start/Run and type in Regedt32 and press Enter.
3. Go to the following registry locations and delete the key values for
UPPERFILTERS and LOWERFILTERS (Do NOT delete the entire
4D36E965-E325-11CE-BBFC1-08002BE10318 key just right click the individual
keys and select Delete)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BBFC1-08002BE10318}

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BBFC1-08002BE10318}

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

4. Close out of Regedt32.exe and reboot the computer.
5. You should have access to your drives after reboot.

Make sure you create a System Restore Point before you make changes to the
registry.
