Missing drivers

A new XP installation has resulted in some drivers (Multimedia Controller
and VIA IDE Bus Master) missing in device manager. The machine seems to run
fine but should I worry about this? I am concerned I am missing some
fuinctionality in these drivers. Hardware update cannot find them. How
should I go about finding them and ensuring that I install the right
versions?

The motherboard is Shuttle and came with VIA audio and IDE drivers but on
the CD they only go up to W2K.

Thanks,

Andrew

Have you tried checking at the Shuttle web site
(http://au.shuttle.com/)?

Go to the manufacturer's web page and look for, download and install the
latest drivers.
If they do not supply drivers for the OS you are trying to run, then they do
not support that hardware running under that OS - and that is that
manufacturer's choice.

Then time for a new mobo.
Using hardware, unsupported by your o/s, could lead to unintended
consequences, the least of which would be a sys that fails.
PS Winupdate is the last place you should look for drivers

At a push you could try installing the Win2K drivers as these will usually
work ok in Windows XP.

The multimedia components seem to work fine. It is juts that this item in
device manager keeps coming up as "uninstalled".

Thanks,

Andrew

Similar problem, which items show "uninstalled" and do they have a yellow mark?
Have you expanded those items and then tried right clicked on those to see
properties and then tried tthe "troubleshoot" tab? Can you see update, or
instal or uninstall option?

Yes, to all.

Sorry, beyond my knowledge. On a similar note, would you happen to know where
one would download a zip file(extract to where?) to update a driver?
Good luck on your other problem.

Thanks Bob I
Don't I have to dwnld to any audio(1-2), codecs, or driver(cache) files once
I extract them? For exmple, I've dowld to desktop then extracted to same, but
does that mean I've applied/installed to correct file(ie: soundmax or realtek
or other)? (Somewhat of a novice to zip and location)
I'm about to try a Hotfix from MS-just got of phone with them. For those
having similar problems see here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/888111
You do have to call them and they'll email you a link-i've got nothing to
lose.

Create a folder for the purpose, don't dump it to the "desktop". I was
only commenting on the folder issue, didn't see the "rest of the issue".
