For Mother's Day, my son-in-law came over to fix an annoying problem I had w/Norton anti-virus. He also "cleaned-up" all the files. Now I am missing a driver to run my scanner. Using the Add Hardware wizard, I inserted disc from my scanner. I get "specified location does not contain info about your hardware". Under the 'Copy Manuf. files from' area, I have: A: and C\windows\system32 and D: All give me the same message. So, I thought to restore to a previous time. But when I press the "system restore" icon....nothing happens. Is there someone with a suggestion? Please keep it simple enough for a recreational pc user!! Thanks

Hi Jan,

For system restore
go to Kelly's site:
www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
and scroll down to line 289 'Restore system restore services.'

Good luck

If nothing works, you could try reinstalling system restore.
Copy and paste the following line into a Start > Run prompt:

rundll32.exe advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %systemroot%\Inf\sr.inf

This will reinstall system restore and will require the XP CD. It
might also require knowing the location of the
Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386 and Windows\System32\dllcache folders.

However, if you reinstall SR you will lose the restore points.

Good luck
