Help urgently needed. I'm none too technical, but my
daughter's PC suddenly failed to load Windows XP
professional this afternoon. The error message says:

Windows could not start because the following file is
missing or corrupt:

<windows root 7\system 32\hall.dll.
Please re0nstall a copy of the above file.

I thought I'd try and just re-load the Windows XP
operating system, but it doesn't `see' the CD rom.

Any help would be very appreciated.

Many thanks,
Liz Havlin

You'll probably need to expand the file from the CD.
Type this command:
expand d:\i386\hal.dl_ (substitute "d" for the letter of your CD drive)
c:\windows\system32\hal.dll.
Substitute d: for the drive letter of your CD.
Once the file is expanded exit the Recovery Console and restart the
computer.

If that doesn't work see the below links for more information.
