Missing Device mgr and Networks screen info

I need some help badly.

My Device Manger screen is completely blank as well as my Networks screen. I
don't even have the options down the left hand side on my networks screen.

I tried to start/stop plug and play, however, those options are grayed out.
I did disable it, reboot, then start it up again, but that didn't fix my
problem.

When I try to setup a wireless network connect, XP says it can't find my
network hardware even though I'm connected to the internet right now -
wired.

What is going on?

There seems to be a rash of blank Device Managers lately, apparently
caused by malware. Running the AproposFix referenced at the forum link
below seems to work:
