missing Current control set \services

I use Windows XP Prof SP2 with all updates. I want to check and possibly
alter my MTU setting but I cannot find HKEY_Local_Machine\System\current
Control Set\services. There is no "services" key. How can this be?

Set\services\TCPIP\Parameters\Interfaces\{.....}MTU. There is no "MTU" .

If you're going to adjust the MTU, you may be adjusting it a few times. I'd use
DrTCP (free) from DSLReports
